Living Geek: Socks in Solid Relationships
I don’t know anyone who has socks that maintain lasting marriages. Washers and dryers are the bane of sock unity. I know my family hosted years of “Socks without Partners” meetings to no avail. But we finally solved this problem.
Simply clip your socks together BEFORE you put them in the wash. Leave them clipped until they are dry. We no longer accept unpaired socks for washing and each family member has a stash of clips in the bedroom, so socks can be thrown in the hamper already stuck together.
Not just any old clip will work. You don’t want wood – which will splinter after several washings. And you need to avoid most metals – which will rust and ruin the whole load. But plastic and plastic-coated clips work very well and have a long life span.
You can find these just about anywhere. And you’ll never hunt through a pile of mismatched socks again!
